Stand in the Gap

Last month, Susan’s Kids partnered with Care For Every Family to host the first-ever Stand in the Gap event, a remarkable gathering that united individuals and organizations from across the child welfare spectrum. The event was a true display of solidarity, with team members from foster and adoptive families, child welfare professionals, and everyday citizens coming together in a powerful show of prayer and peace.

Thousands of people lined the streets to raise awareness about the more than 1,400 children currently in state custody in Kansas, and to spark conversations on how to better support and advocate for foster children. The event also served as a call to action, encouraging attendees to explore ways they can get involved and make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.

Connecting the Dots for Foster Children

At the heart of Stand in the Gap was Care For Every Family, an organization dedicated to connecting people with opportunities to support foster children and families in need. Their mission is to bridge the gap between those who want to help and the resources needed to make that help possible. Whether you're someone who has been thinking about becoming a foster parent or simply looking for ways to contribute in smaller, but meaningful ways, Care For Every Family is helping make those connections.

How You Can Help Foster Children

If you’re wondering how you can help foster children beyond becoming a foster parent, there are countless ways to make a difference. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Donate Goods: Foster children often arrive in homes with little to no belongings. Items like dressers, bicycles, clothes, and toys can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

  • Provide Meals: Offering to cook and deliver a home-cooked meal to a foster family is a simple but impactful way to show your support. Foster families often face unique challenges, and something as small as a meal can go a long way in easing their burden.

  • Donate Funds: Financial contributions can help families in need with expenses like transportation, school supplies, or even daycare costs. A small donation can help a foster family get back on their feet and provide a stable environment for the children in their care.

The Power of Community Support

The Stand in the Gap event was a powerful reminder that there is strength in unity, and that when we come together as a community, we can create lasting change for foster children and families. Whether you're donating goods, volunteering your time, or offering financial support, every effort counts. The children in our care need us now more than ever, and it's up to all of us to answer the call.
